Planning - Ways Of Making Syncing Is Easier
Ways Of Making Syncing Easier
To make sure the band is in time with the music we have came up with two theories. We had to keep in mind that the two main people that needed to hear the track was the drummer, to make sure all his hits are in sync, and the vocalist, to make sure all the words he sings are sustained for the right amount of time and his expressions are similar. As this is a band video, in many of the shots everyone will have to play, so we came up with these two theories to cater for the needs of the band and the tightness and smoothness of our production.
Click and Sound
As you see below the diagram we will use headphones and a PA system. We will use a laptop to play the track. As i have sorted out the track on a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) i have managed to split audio to make sure everyone is playing in time. Out of one output, the drummer will be playing to a click track (metronome). This will be no hassle for him as we found out that during live performance he already plays to clicks. This will ensure that what he plays will be exactly in time with what is on the track. Out of the other output, the track will play out of the PA system. This will be situated behind the camera/in front of the vocalist. This is so the vocalist can make sure his vocals are in time with the track and his expressions can be the same. This is also so the other band can hear the track, so they can keep in time, but not just with the drummer.
Sound
This will be using just the track. It will play out of a PA system, apart from unlike last time, the speakers will be split around set, yet hidden. The first speaker, as the other theory, will be situated behind the camera and in front of the vocalist. This time, the second speaker will be situated behind one of the amps, therefore blocking the speaker from view of the camera. This is so the drummer can also play to the song, yet will be much easier to hear when the speaker is closer to him.

Digipak's
Digpaks allow people to work more freely and experimental with the deisign and information in the case. It looks more professional and if printed correctly gives off an amazing finish. People prefer Digipaks because it is a variation on what has been done before - they're different. As the MP3 download wesites, such as iTunes, are growign massively, people will be more willing to buy a hardcopy of a CD that looks nice oposed to one that doesnt.

Institutions
For our band/song we have chosen (In Archives - Step Down) we researched into institutions we could use to promote the video and album release. There were two main channels that caught our eyes, due to there reputation within the genre and there success over the past years.
Kerrang!
Kerrang was originally a magazine published by 'Emap'. After being named a onomatopoeic name (by what the sound of a power chord makes) they began there career in june 1981. The branched out over the years and now own, a magazine, a radio station, an awards night, a music channel and a annual tour. After making such an impact on the metal industry we thought that Kerrang may be a suggestion. As they use all different types of media, we can publish the band through the company, using there video channel, there magazine and other media services the provide. As the magazine has been so successful, as the music channel, this could do the band justice.
Scuzz
Scuzz has always been a music channel owned by 'CSC Media Group' - who own over 20 music channels. It is a rather new channel only starting 8 years ago in 2003. The also are in connection with all the major festivals, giving footage through the channel of these festivals every year. Recently they have started a website as well. This channel is specific to hardcore and metal genres. As this is the case, we immediately had an interest for our band to use its channels. Although it lacks in the amount of media types 'Kerrang!' does, it is specific to the genres the band have formed inspiration from. Also, because of the company that 'Scuzz' is run by, and the success they have had, the band would benefit from being taken on through this music channel.
Conclusion
Due to the shear amount of media types and success rate they have had, we have decided as a group to go for 'Kerrang!' as our institution. We made this decision because of the reputation the channel/magazine/etc has over the UK and Europe and the exposure the band will have through the amount of views on the channel and readers. 'Kerrang!' are extremely successful in what they do, and after the amount of years they have done doing this, it seemed a more suited idea to pick this institution as the company seem to have succeeded well before hand.

Musical Style/Structure
Our Song
Our song we chose does not match to a specific convention within the genre. The band 'In Archives' who's song it is, have pushed 'the boat out' and still kept the repeated chorus idea you see in pop songs, but flowed in with not many/no repeated verses.
Our song structure:
Intro
Bridge
Chorus One
Intro Repeat
Verse
Chorus Two
Verse
Beatdown One
Verse
Beatdown Two
Chorus Three
Bridge
Breakdown
Epic Ending
Traditional pop song structure:
Intro
Verse One
Chorus
Verse Two
Chorus
Verse Three
Bridge
Chorus
Chorus Repeat
Ending
Although the song structure may be slightly different to other metal core bands, the music still fits within the genre. As they are inspired by such bands as, 'Architects', 'The Ghost Inside' and 'Periphery', they have kept elements that still makes them 'Metalcore'. Using unconventional chord changes, but keeping within conventional scales means they have pushed boundaries every so slightly to create a slight 'edit' on whats been done before. Playing in the tuning 'Drop B' means the sound of the guitars is much lower and 'heavy', and keeping in time with a metronome at 230 bmp, are other key elements within the genre. They also have two guitars, one bass and one drummer, which most metal core bands have. This is so it allows them to use harmonies, add punch to the riffs and allow them to be more experimental with the music.

Music Theory
Genral
Intertextuality: - 'The relationships between texts'. This is where someone uses, or somewhat refers back to, something thats already been done. For example, 'Robbie Williams' refers to the band 'KISS' and 'Ozzy Osbourne' in the video 'Let Me Entertain You'. This is only one of many examples. Intertextuality is a effective way of engaging and making the audience relate to the video.
Exhibitionism - 'A tendency to display in such ways to attract attention'. This focus'; on ways artists are potrayed and act in there videos to draw people in.
Andrew Goodwin Theory
Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics.
Close ups of artists and motifs (a visual style) are created due to the label wanting there artist to be shown.
There is often a intertextual referance to a movies, tv programs, music videos etc.
John Stewart's Theory
'Incorporating, raiding and reconstructing' is intertextuality. Yet people may see this as 'Kicking Ideas', this is not if the idea is down in the same way.
Video allows the artist to access the performer than just a stage show.
Mis-en-scene can hint towarsds the mood of the songs, the artists lifestyles etc ...

Steve Archers Theory
There no need for a strong relationship between the the narrtive and proformance.
There will be cuts through out the video between the narrative and proformance.
Choregraphed dance might be added for an extra aspect for the video, purely for visualisation.
| Architects - Always - The performance and narrative have no connection |
Astehtics of TV commercials, with lots of lighting and closes ups on the stars face.

Digipak's
What is a Digipak?
A 'Digipak' is a different style of packaging for a CD/DVD/Etc. This is a registered trademark of AGI World Ltd. Digipaks consist of a gatefold paperboard, with a gloss finish. Inside, there is ethier a plastic tray to hold the CD/DVD or a sleeve to put the CD/DVD in. Digipaks were one ofthe first alternatives to the 'Jewel' cases. Digipak's have no offical name, and the name has stuck due to the popularity of them.

Target Audience
Our target auidence will be to males and females. Were aiming for both genres in there mid teens that like the metalcore genre. This is so the lyrics can have a stronger connection as the lyrics are written by the band which are still in there teens. Younger peopel will be able to relate to this song easier and will understand the meaning behind the video. We've selceted this age group because the institutions it will be played on are aimed at this sort of age group also, therefore making complete sense for us to aim to a similar, if not exactly the same people.
